During the course I have looked at artists such as: John Baldessari, Jill freedman, Anelia Loubser, John Cosplan, Greg Sand, and Man Ray. I looked at these artists through a range of themes and looked at how their techniques and processes might work for me. One photographers work I have explored is Jill freedman. I found Jill freedman in a documentary about street photographers called:everybody street. I like her work because she documents lives of people we wouldn't think twice to look at (i.e. NCY police). Another artist I have looked at is John Baldessari, by looking at his piece wrong helped me understand what it means for a photograph to be wrong, photography is just a matter of the artist or audiences oppinion when it comes to deciding whats wrong with it.
I have explored two main themes personal projects and processes and techniques. Within the theme processes and techniques I have looked at things like: Pinhole photography, photograms and rayograms, and light painting. These techniques and process helped me when on personal projects such as: street photography, disguise, and close up. When looking at the sub-theme disguise I started by looking at the artist Anelia Loubser. I found her on pinterest when I typed in 'disguise artists'. I liked her abstract interesting work that makes the human face feel alien even though all she has done is crop in on the forehead and eyes and then rotate the photo 180 degrees. I tried recreating a set of images similar to hers by using a black backdrop a DSLR camera on monochrome setting and studio lighting. However instead of taking photos of my subjects forehead I took a photo of the chin and mouth area. Which like Anelia Loubeser still looks rather alien interesting.
The outcome of my personal project street photography was using the techniques I had learnt and putting them into practice when I went to Nepal, Kathmandu. I captured many interesting things that before I probably would have overlooked before studying street photography. I was hoping to capture aspects of life strangers lives in Kathmandu. In some ways it did work as I captured parts of peoples live but I also captured interesting things as well. Another project outcome was of my personal project disguise. I looked at photographers for example Anelia Loubser and then the Thatcher illusion so I could make a final piece. My initial idea for this project was to disguise the face so it looked alien but then after looking at the thatcher illusion I decided I liked the idea of disguising the human emotions that we display because hiding your emotions can hide who you are and how people think of you and remember you. And then when we went on a trip to the photographers gallery to visit Lorenzo Vitturi's Dalston anatomy I looked at new ways of display. Instead of displaying my final piece in a frame or as tryptics or dyptics I decided I liked the 3-D display at the photographers gallery And for my final piece display I made prisms of the shapes and will display them hanging from the ceiling.
Another outcome was for my personal project about close up photography was me using a macro lens inspired by the photographer greg sand.my initial ideas for this project was taking pictures of my hand inspired by john cosplan in monochrome. Then I looked at rayograms so I could understand shape and how iconic it can be in identifying someone through their hand and a few pieces of jewellery they wear. I took some more photos in monochrome but instead of like the first set I took my idea of exploration of shape from my rayograms and used it when making the third set of photos, Which are displayed in a typtric. It was then after this I looked at the photographer Greg Sands. and then I took two sets of photos one was my first attempt with the macro lens the second was my second attempt with the macro lens. I then choose three photos from the second attempt photos and displayed them in typtric form. I decided to move onto Greg Sand as I quite liked how by zooming in a lot you can start to see what makes a human in their deaper appearance.
in unit one I was hoping to create pieces of work that helped me to understand different aspects of photography. And something generally interesting to look at.
AO4: Present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating critical understanding, realising intentions and, where appropriate, making connections between visual, written, oral or other elements.
